Pre-Menopause:  What You Should Expect During Pre-Menopause

Pre-menopause is the stage that occurs prior to the official onset of menopause. This condition is also referred to as “perimenopause”. While most women experience pre-menopause as early as their mid-forties, there have been many cases in which women younger than this have experienced symptoms. It is important to make an appointment with a specialist in the area of women’s health if you find that you are experiencing pre-menopause symptoms. The doctor will conduct an interview that may consist of questions related to your family history, your personal medical history, and the symptoms that you have been experiencing. Furthermore, you may be subjected to various tests in order for the doctor to confirm or disprove the diagnosis.

In order for you to know whether or not you are experiencing pre-menopause, it is important to become familiar with the symptoms that may be experienced during this time. One of the most common and likely symptoms is that the menstrual cycle becomes highly irregular. There are many different ways that this can occur. Periods may start to become heavier than they normally are. Then again, many women find that their periods become lighter than normal. The normal cycle may start to last longer than it normally did, or last for a shorter amount of time. Women may also notice that their period does not come for months at a time. This is a truly unique, yet common symptom that occurs in the pre-menopause stage of life.

Many women in the pre-menopause stage of life will begin to notice that they get hot rather quickly. This is called “hot flashes”. These spells of high heat in the body can create night sweats that interfere with the ability to rest well, irritability due to the lack of comfort experienced, and even periods in which the woman will experience chills and discomfort related to being cold.

For female experiencing pre-menopause symptoms, it is not uncommon to endure many emotions during this time. You may find that you are depressed, and feel quite sad for no apparent reason. Many times, you may feel fine and then all of a sudden, you will be in a really foul mood. There may be no apparent reason for this, and if this is the case, it often will frustrate you even more. You may find that you experience high levels of anxiety on many levels, and about numerous things that may not have otherwise been an issue to you. If you are experiencing emotional issues, it is always best to consult your doctor and discuss these changes. You may even benefit from seeking counseling services.

Many women who experience pre-menopause may find it to be challenging and difficult to cope with the changes that occurring in the body. However, it should not be demoralizing, as there is hope. There are many items available that can help to alleviate some of the symptoms associated with this pre-menopausal condition. Your doctor will be able to outline the treatments that will benefit you. From here, you can decide which to participate in. It is important to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible during this very important time in your life.
